Nomura Private Bank Expands, Ravi Raju Leads Growth and Hires 20 Private Bankers and Advisors in Asia

Nomura Private Banking with the hiring of Ravi Raju as the new Head of International Wealth Management in Asia in September 2020, has hired over 20 private bankers and investment advisors in Hong Kong and Singapore to serve High net worth (HNW) clients. In April 2020, Nomura’s Wealth Management business in Asia ex-Japan was grouped together with Global Markets and Investment Banking and laid plans to triple AUM (Assets under Management) by March 2025.

20 Private Bankers & Investment Advisors Joins Nomura
The 20 private bankers and investment advisors include many senior private banking veterans from UBS, HSBC, Citi Private Bank, Credit Suisse, BNP Paribas, Deutsche Bank, Merrill Lynch and Julius Baer. Private Bankers are able to attract large amount of assets from billionaires, UHNWs, HNWs, family offices and institutional investors.
The senior private bankers joining Nomura are Wayne Yang, Trevor Mak, Johnny Liu, Kitty Chen, Adil Khan, Brajesh Jha, Mohit Gupta, Charly Madan, Nini Rojanavanich, Umesh Pandey and Kripa Bathija. Private bankers typically manages $100 million to $300 million of assets, with the most senior and top private bankers managing assets of $300 million to $1 billion and top UHNW private bankers can manage book size of $500 million to $2 billion.
Ravi Raju Leads Growth at Nomura Private Banking
In September 2020, Nomura, the leading Japanese investment bank hired Ravi Raju as Head of International Wealth Management to lead Nomura’s international wealth management business in Asia ex-Japan. Based in Singapore, he will also work with Nomura’s Global Markets and Investment Banking businesses to serve their clients, including entrepreneurs, family offices and external asset managers.
In April 2020, Nomura’s Wealth Management business in Asia ex-Japan was grouped together with Global Markets and Investment Banking to offer world-class investment products and solutions to clients.
Ravi Raju has almost 30 years of experience in financial markets. He joined from UBS where he was the Head of Ultra High Net Worth (UHNW) and Global Family Office in Asia-Pacific (APAC). Prior to UBS, he was at Deutsche Bank where he was the Head of Wealth Management APAC and also led the Asset Management APAC business. Ravi started his career with Citibank where he held several senior roles in APAC and Middle East.
Nomura AUM to Grow 3x by 2025
Nomura aims to more than triple assets under management (AUM) in its International Wealth Management business by March 2025, through an accelerated expansion of the client franchise and enhancement of the wealth management product and services platform.

Trevor Mak joins as Managing Director and Relationship Manager for Hong Kong. Previously, he was the Managing Director Private Wealth Management at UOB Kay Hian and was in Private Banking at Citi Private Bank, UBS, Coutts, Standard Chartered and Julius Baer.
Johnny Liu joins as Managing Director focusing on family office coverage for Greater China. Previously, he was a partner at family office Aldworth Management, the Head of Global UHNW Greater China at UBS and in Wealth Management and Investment Banking at HSBC, Credit Suisse and Deutsche Bank.
Kitty Chen joins as Managing Director and Team Lead for China. Previously, she was in Private Banking at Union Bancaire Privee (UBP), Credit Suisse, Merrill Lynch, ING and HSBC.
Adil Khan joins as Managing Director and Group Head of Southeast Asia, and also focusing on the Middle East market and NRI in the Middle East. Previously, he was the Managing Director and Team Head for the Global India business and leading the Middle East desk in Asia at Citi Private Bank. Prior to Citi Private Bank, he was the CEO of EFG Bank for Middle East.
Brajesh Jha joins as Managing Director and Group Head, Southeast Asia. Previously, he was the Managing Director and Head for Southeast Asia at BNP Paribas and and and had held several senior roles Wealth Management and Investment Banking at UBS.
Mohit Gupta joins as Managing Director and Team Lead for Southeast Asia NRI. Previously, he was the Managing Director and Team Head, Indian Markets at BNP Paribas and had also held several investment advisory roles with Credit Suisse and Standard Chartered.
Charly Madan joins as Managing Director and Team Lead, Southeast Asia. Previously, he was the Managing Director and Team Leader for UHNW clients in Thailand and Vietnam at BNP Paribas. He has over 30 years of experience in financial services and held several senior roles in Thailand including Chairman of CNP REIT, CFO & CRO of Pruksa Real Estate, Country Executive, Thailand, and Asia Pacific Head of Capital and Portfolio Management at Royal Bank of Scotland, Head of Corporate Banking at Bank of Ayudhya and Country Officer at Citibank.
Nini Rojanavanich joins as Executive Director and Relationship Manager, Southeast Asia. Previously, she was the Director of UHNW client in Thailand at BNP Paribas and had held leadership roles in Sumitomo Mitsui Banking Corporation, Royal Bank of Scotland, Citibank, Bangkok Bank and ABN AMRO.
Umesh Pandey joins as Executive Director and Relationship Manager, Southeast Asia. Previously, he was at BNP Paribas and had spent 16 years at the Bangkok Post where his last role was as Editor-in-Chief, and Reuters and The Wall Street Journal.
Kripa Bathija joins as Executive Director and Relationship Manager covering family offices and UHNW clients in Southeast Asia. Previously, she was covering family offices and UHNW clients Bank of Singapore, and at Citibank, covering the NRI business.
