$1.5 Trillion Asset Manager Franklin Templeton Launches Investment Institute

Franklin Templeton, one of world’s largest asset management firm with $1.5 trillion AUM (Assets under Management), has announced the launch of the Franklin Templeton Investment Institute.

The Franklin Templeton Investment Institute is an innovative hub for research and knowledge sharing to unlock the asset manager’s competitive advantage as a source of global market insights and will be led by Stephen Dover, who is the current Head of Equities will be the new Chief Market Strategist and Head of the Franklin Templeton Investment Institute. Terrence Murphy who is the current CEO ClearBridge Investments will take on an additional as Head of Equities for Franklin Templeton.
The appointments will be effective on the 1st of February 2021, and both will report to Jenny Johnson, who is the President and CEO of Franklin Templeton.
Stephen Dover Leads Franklin Templeton Investment Institute
The Franklin Templeton Investment Institute will serve as a center of excellence to harness the firm’s global investment expertise and extensive in-house research capabilities.
Stephen Dover, in his new role as Chief Market Strategist and Head of Franklin Templeton Investment Institute, will continue to provide market insights for the firm and lead the Investment Institute’s operations. He will actively facilitate the sharing of research through multiple channels, including bespoke data analysis, proprietary content and academic partnerships.
Terrence Murphy Leads ClearBridge as CEO, Head of Equities at Franklin Templeton
Terence Murphy will continue as CEO at ClearBridge, an autonomous specialist investment organization within Franklin Templeton. In his new role as Head of Equities of Franklin Templeton, he will also join the Franklin Templeton Executive Committee.
Terence Murphy will oversee Franklin Equity, Franklin Mutual Series, Templeton Global Equity and Edinburgh Partners, Franklin Templeton Emerging Markets Equity, and the Local Asset Management Developed Markets Equity teams, which collectively include over 250 investment professionals managing a broad variety of equity strategies for both retail and institutional clients globally.
Franklin Templeton Acquires Legg Mason in 2020
In July 2020, Franklin Templeton had successfully completed its acquisition of asset manager Legg Mason, growing the firm’s AUM (Assets under Management) to $1.5 trillion at the end of December 2020. Before merging into Franklin Templeton, Legg Mason reported AUM of more than $780 billion at the end of June 2020.
