UBS Firing of Investment Banker James Boland Defamatory for Switching of Bond Underwriting to Loan Structure, Filed for $15 Million in Compensation

The United States financial authority FINRA (Financial Industry Regulatory Authority) has ruled UBS firing of former investment banker James Boland (UBS Head of Americas Leveraged Finance) as defamatory, with James Boland filing for $15 million in compensation ($3.3 million for canceled awards, $2 million for unjust enrichment, $10 million in punitive damages) and an undisclosed settlement reached in March 2022. In 2018, UBS investment banker James Boland who held the role of UBS Head of Americas Leveraged Finance and a colleague were working on a leveraged finance deal for Ares Capital Management. James Boland did not disclose to his superiors the financing structure had been switched from a bond underwriting to a loan structure, and was subsequently fired. James Boland thereafter filed for $15 million in compensation. With the ruling by FINRA (Financial Industry Regulatory Authority) UBS firing of James Boland was defamatory, and should be expunged from his record with regulators with the reason for his termination should be changed to voluntary.
