HSBC Fires FX Trader & Credit Suisse Fires Global Head of ECM Syndicate for Using Messaging Channels & Whatsapp to Communicate with Clients

HSBC has fired a London-based Foreign Exchange (FX) trader while Credit Suisse has fired Anthony Kontoleon (Global Head of Equity Capital Markets Syndicate) based in New York for using unauthorised messaging channels & whatsapp to communicate with clients. In December 2021, the United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) and Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) fined JP Morgan a total of $200 million for failing to prevent employees from using unapproved communication channels such as messaging apps, text messages and WhatsApp. The United States Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) fined JP Morgan $125 million and the Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) fined JP Morgan $75 million.
