Football superstar Lionel Messi has launched a new investment firm in San Francisco (Play Time Sports-Tech HoldCo) to invest in sports, media & technology (stage-agnostic). Lionel Messi, the former Barcelona and current French Ligue 1 Paris Saint-Germain football player, is one of the highest earning sports superstar with $120 million earnings for 2022/2023 season and career earnings of $1.15 billion (sports, endorsement etc), with only 3 active sports star earning more (LeBron James, Cristiano Ronaldo & Tiger Woods). Lionel Messi: “I am excited to extend our roots into Silicon Valley, and I am thrilled that Play Time will collabourate with daring entrepreneurs from all over the world.” Play Time will be run by Razmig Hovaghimian (Partner at venture capital Graph Ventures) and special adviser Michael Marquez (founding partner of investment bank Code Advisors). PlayTime has already invested in Matchday.com gaming venture and jersey marketplace AC Momento.

NBA sports star Lebron James is a billionaire with more than $1 billion net worth and one of the wealthiest sports & NBA basketball star, with retired Michael Jordan also a billionaire with around $1.7 billion. Lebron James invests through his entertainment group SpringHill, and has a 1% stake in Fenway Sports Group which owns English Premier League Liverpool Football Club.
Lionel Messi, Argentina
Lionel Messi was born in 1987 in Argentina. He won the Ballon d’Or awards 7 times (highest honour in football, football year of the year), and a club-record 35 trophies at the Spanish football team Barcelona. Lionel Messi moved to Spain at the age of 13 and quickly became a Barcelona superstar, making his debut at the age of 16 years old (4 months & 23 days) in a friendly match. At the age of 17 years old (3 months, and 22 days old), he made his official debut (competitive game) against football team Espanyol on the 16th October 2004.
Tax Fraud
In 2013, Lionel Messi was investigated for tax evasion, using offshore companies to evade more than €4 million in taxes. In the Panama Papers leaked, Lionel Messi was identified and paid arrears of €5.1 million in August 2013. In 2016, Lionel Messi & his father were found guilty of tax fraud and ordered to pay a total of €3.1 million in fines and given 21 months suspended prison sentences. Lionel Messi: ”I just played football. I signed the contracts because I trusted my dad and the lawyers and we had decided that they would take charge of those things.”
