The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) has appointed Kenneth Hui as Executive Director (External), succeeding Darryl Chan who was appointed as Deputy Chief Executive in 2022. Kenneth Hui in his new role, will develop Hong Kong as an International Financial Centre and advance Mainland-Hong Kong financial cooperation. Prior to joining the HKMA in February 2017, Mr Hui was a Senior Manager in Investment Products Division of the Securities and Futures Commission, where he specialised in regulatory policies on retail funds and innovative retail investment products. HKMA Appoints Kenneth Hui as Executive Director Succeeding Darryl Chan Who was Appointed as Deputy Chief Executive in 2022
HKMA – The Hong Kong Monetary Authority (HKMA) announced today (18 April) that the Financial Secretary, on the advice of the Governance Sub-Committee of the Exchange Fund Advisory Committee, has approved the appointment of Mr Kenneth Hui as Executive Director (External) with effect from 24 April 2023. Mr Hui will succeed Mr Darryl Chan who was appointed as Deputy Chief Executive with effect from 1 November 2022. Mr Hui joined the HKMA as Senior Manager (Market Development) in February 2017 and has taken up his current role of Head (Market Development) since March 2020 with responsibilities in the formulation and implementation of various initiatives to promote the development of Hong Kong’s financial sector. On appointment as Executive Director (External), Mr Hui will be responsible for promoting the development of Hong Kong as an international financial centre, advancing Mainland-Hong Kong financial cooperation, and overseeing the HKMA’s participation in international forums and organisations.
Kenneth Hui holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Management from the London School of Economics and Political Science, a Bachelor’s degree in Chinese Law from Peking University and a Master of Science degree in Applied Economics from Johns Hopkins University. Prior to joining the HKMA in February 2017, Mr Hui was a Senior Manager in Investment Products Division of the Securities and Futures Commission, where he specialised in regulatory policies on retail funds and innovative retail investment products.
