The World Health Organization (WHO) has ended the global emergency status for COVID-19 (5th May 2023), 3 years after the highest alert was initiated on 30th January 2020 with 6.9 million deaths. WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus added that the end of COVID emergency status is not the end of COVID global health threat.
