American Jim Chanos (James Steven Chanos) hedge fund known for short selling Enron & Tesla, is being sued by his business partner Sean Conlon for borrowing $10 million from Chanos & Co. but had no intention to repay. Jim Chanos had also sold a United States Miami $17.8 million apartment without informing his business partners with Jim Chanos girlfriend acting as sales agent earning $540,000 of commission. In 2020, Sean Conlon via Conlon Holdings had invested in Jim Chanos company Chanos & Co, and had invested & provided loan of more than $30 million since 2019. Conlon Holdings filed the lawsuit to restrain transfer proceeds of $17.8 million the Miami apartment sale, and to remove Jim Chanos as General Partner. In 2023 November, Jim Chanos announced to return most capital to investors by end of 2023. The hedge fund AUM (Assets under Management) had decreased from around $8 billion in 2008 to $200 million in 2023. For 2023, the hedge fund portfolio return is at around -4% YTD (year-to-date, 2023 November), and had generated around $5 billion of profits to investors since inception in 1985. Chanos & Company L.P. (formerly known as Kynikos Associates LP) was founded in 1985 by James S. Chanos and manages a variety of funds.
