Vietnam VinaCapital ($4 billion AUM) has appointed Alex Hambly as Chief Investment Officer succeeding Andy Ho who had died at age 52 from a stroke at his home in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam (6/6/24). Alex Hambly has more than 30 years of investment experience including at HSBC, Barclays, British International Investment & Prudential, where he was Prudential CEO & CIO of the fund management business in Vietnam. Alex Hambly is an investment committee member of the Vina Capital Vietnam Opportunity Fund since 2020. VinaCapital Asset Management CEO Brook Taylor will continue as interim Head of VinaCapital Vietnam Opportunity Fund (The Co-Managers of the fund are Deputy Managing Directors Khanh Vu & Dieu Phuong Nguyen Thi). In 2024 June, VinaCapital & VinaCapital Vietnam Opportunity Fund Chief Investment Officer Andy Ho died at age 52 from stroke at his home in Ho Chi Minh City in Vietnam (6/6/24). With Andy Ho passing, VinaCapital announced the appointment of VinaCapital Asset Management CEO Brook Taylor as interim leader of VinaCapital Vietnam Opportunity Fund (The Co-Managers of the fund are Deputy Managing Directors Khanh Vu & Dieu Phuong Nguyen Thi). Andy Ho had joined VinaCapital 17 years ago in 2007, and grew Vietnam Opportunity Fund net asset value to over $1 billion. Andy Ho serves as Chief Investment Officer of VinaCapital Group and Managing Director of the VinaCapital Vietnam Opportunity Fund (VOF), which is traded on the Main Market of the London Stock Exchange. Since joining VinaCapital in 2007, Andy has helped VOF’s net asset value surpass the USD1 billion mark, deployed over USD1 billion on privately negotiated deals and led over USD700 million in exits via strategic trade sales. Andy is a leading authority on investing in developing markets, privatizations, and private equity deals in Vietnam, regularly speaking at events around the region and appearing in the media. Prior to joining VinaCapital, Andy was director of investment at Prudential Vietnam, where he looked after the company’s capital market portfolio and developed its bank investment strategy, which provided a return of four times over an 18-month period. He also served as manager of Prudential’s mutual fund, PruBF1. Andy also held various management positions at Dell Ventures (the investment group of Dell Computer Corp.) and Ernst & Young. Andy earned a BS in Finance and Accounting from the University of Colorado Boulder, and an MBA from the Massachusetts Institute of Technology. He is a Certified Public Accountant in the US.
