JP Morgan has cancelled the proposal to re-calculate JPMorgan Government Bond Index-Emerging Markets (GBI-EM), which is tracked by $236 billion AUM in 2023.  The proposal would have impacted China weightage in the index by nearly 50%.  The GBI-EM consists of regularly traded, fixed-rate, domestic currency government bonds which international investors can readily access. The index excludes countries where local market investing is subject to explicit capital controls, but eligibility consideration does not factor in regulatory/tax hurdles.
