Hong Kong Exchange (HKEX) has appointed the Chair of Olayan Financing Company & Saudi Awwal Bank Lubna Olayan and Chairman Emeritus of Invesco Marty Flanagan to the HKEX International Advisory Council (Setup in 2019 to advise HKEX Board of Directors). The 10 members include Laura M Cha, RS Group Chair Rona Fairhead, ex-Chair & CEO of HSBC Stuart Gulliver, PAG Group Chair Weijian Shan, HongShan Founding Partner Neil Shen, Chairman of Alibaba Joseph Tsai, HKEX Chairman Carlson Tong and HKEX CEO Bonnie Y Chan. HKEX (30/8/24): “Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) is today (Friday) pleased to announce the appointment of Lubna Olayan, Chair of the Executive Committee of Olayan Financing Company and Saudi Awwal Bank (SAB), and Marty Flanagan, Chairman Emeritus of Invesco Ltd. (Invesco), to HKEX’s International Advisory Council (Council) with effect from 1 September 2024. Established in 2019, the Council comprises experts in economics, business, technology and finance from around the world to advise the HKEX Board of Directors. With the addition of Ms Olayan and Mr Flanagan, the Council will comprises 10 members and is chaired by Laura M Cha, former HKEX Chairman. Lubna Olayan Biography – Lubna Olayan is actively involved in the governance of The Olayan Group (TOG) through serving as Chair of the Executive Committee of Olayan Financing Company (OFC) – the holding company of TOG in the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) – Chair of the Corporate Board of Olayan Saudi Holding Company (OSHCO) – the operating entity of TOG in MENA – and Chair of the Shareholders Board of TOG. Ms. Olayan also chairs the Board of Saudi Awwal Bank (SAB), a publicly listed Saudi company. In addition, Ms. Olayan is currently a member of several international advisory boards, including those of Akbank, Allianz SE, Bank of America, Hakluyt, and TotalEnergies. She is a Senior Advisor at Chatham House and sits on the Board of Directors of KAUST Investment Management Company (KIMC). She also serves as a trustee of MIT and the World Economic Forum, as a member of the Asia Business Council, and as a director of the Philanthropy Asia Alliance (PAA) of Temasek Trust. Her other philanthropic positions include serving as President of the Suliman S. Olayan Foundation and Chair of Alfanar, a UK based charity and the first venture philanthropy organization in the Arab world.
Marty Flanagan Biography – Marty Flanagan has served as a Chairman Emeritus of Invesco Ltd. (Invesco) since July 2023. He served as a Director, President and Chief Executive Officer of Invesco from 2005 to June 2023. Mr Flanagan joined Invesco from Franklin Resources, Inc., where he was president and co-chief executive officer from 2004 to 2005, and held numerous positions of increasing responsibility – co-president, chief operating officer, chief financial officer and senior vice president – from 1993 to 2003. Mr Flanagan serves as Trustee of Southern Methodist University (SMU) and as a member of the executive Board at the SMU Cox School of Business. He is a member of the International Advisory Council of the China Securities Regulatory Commission and serves as a Visiting Management Practice Professor at Tsinghua University School of Economics and Management in Beijing. Mr Flanagan is a co-Founder and currently serves as Chair of Engage Ventures, an innovation platform bringing together Atlanta-based corporations to support startups. He previously served as Chair and Board member of the Atlanta Committee for Progress; and Chair and member of the Executive Council for the Metro Atlanta Chamber. Mr Flanagan formerly served as chair and vice chair on the executive committee and on the Board of Governors for the Investment Company Institute. Mr Flanagan is a CFA charterholder and was a certified public accountant from 1986 to 2022. He holds a Bachelor of Arts degree and a Bachelor of Business Administration degree from SMU.

25th March 2023 – Hong Kong Exchange (HKEX) has appointed Baroness Rona Fairhead & Megan Greene to the HKEX International Advisory Council for a 3-year term, joining Stuart Gulliver, Weijian Shan, Neil Shen, Joseph Tsai & Chairman Laura M Cha. Established in 2019, the HKEX Council comprises of experts in economics, business, technology and finance from around the world who act as advisors to the HKEX Board of Directors. The Council contributes to HKEX’s understanding of the global environment, including knowledge of developments in other major financial centres, advancements in technology and global policy and regulatory initiatives. Baroness Rona Fairhead
Baroness Rona Fairhead, CBE, is Chair of RS Group plc, a Non-Executive Director of Oracle Corporation and a member of the United Kingdom’s House of Lords. She previously served as Minister of State for Trade and Export Promotion at the UK Department for International Trade (2017-2019); Chair of the British Broadcasting Corporation Trust (2014-2017); Independent Non-Executive Director of HSBC Holdings plc (2004-2016); Chair and Chief Executive Officer of the Financial Times Group Limited (2006-2013); and as Non-Executive Director of The Economist Newspaper Limited (2005-2013). She holds a Bachelor of Arts and a Master of Arts in Law from the University of Cambridge and a Master in Business Administration from Harvard Business School. She is an Honorary Doctor of Queen’s University, Belfast and Teesside University and an Honorary Fellow of St Catharine’s College, Cambridge.
Ms Megan Greene
Ms Megan Greene is Global Chief Economist for the Kroll Institute, where she advises on the potential impact of global macroeconomic developments and policy on the firm’s business services and those of its clients. She serves as a Senior Fellow at the Watson Institute for International and Public Affairs at Brown University and also teaches at Schwarzman College (Tsinghua University) and the European University Institute. She is also the first Dame DeAnne Julius Senior Fellow in International Economics at Chatham House. She serves on the Academic Advisory Committee at the San Francisco Federal Reserve and writes a regular column on global macroeconomics for The Financial Times. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Political Economy from Princeton University and a Master of Science in International Relations from the University of Oxford. Previously, she was a Senior Fellow at the Mossavar-Rahmani Center for Business and Government at Harvard Kennedy School and Global Chief Economist at John Hancock/Manulife Asset Management.
