The world’s largest asset manager BlackRock ($11.5 trillion AUM) has been reported to be buying private credit asset manager HPS Investment Partners ($148 billion AUM) founded in 2007 at $12 billion valuation. In 2024 October, HPS Investment Partners ($117 billion AUM) was reported to be planning for an IPO at $10 billion valuation. Asset managers BlackRock, Lunate & CVC Capital Partners have been reported to be considering an investment or direct acquisition. HPS Investment Partners 3 founders combined fortune are estimated at $7.3 billion. HPS was founded in 2007, to focus on credit and longer-dated less liquid investment opportunities. It was originally formed as a division of Highbridge Capital Management within J.P. Morgan Asset Management and known as Highbridge Principal Strategies. The firm is led by seven principals: Scott Kapnick, Scot French, Michael Patterson, Purnima Puri, Faith Rosenfeld, Paul Knollmeyer, and Kathy Choi.
