Australia mining giants BHP ($125 billion market value) & Rio Tinto ($100 billion market value) are facing sexual harassment class action lawsuits by using confidentiality agreements to prevent female employees from speaking on sexual harassment. BHP reported 471 sexual harassment cases in FY2024, and investigated 100 cases. In 2024 October, BHP is in a $47 billion UK lawsuit (Started 21/10/24) for the collapse of Brazil Mariana Dam in 2015, resulting in mining waste & toxic released, caused floods, affected thousands of homes, 19 deaths & polluted the sacred Doce River. The lawsuit filed includes more than 600,000 Brazil citizens, 2,000 Brazil businesses & 46 Brazil local governments. The Mariana Dam was owned by BHP & Vale joint venture with Samarco. BHP had paid $8 billion compensation via the Renova Foundation setup in 2016.
