Singapore DBS Bank ($90 billion market value) has been named as potential buyer of Malaysia Alliance Bank ($1.7 billion market value) from investment firm Vertical Theme with 29% shareholding. Singapore $289 billion Temasek (Duxton Investment & Development) owns 49% of Vertical Theme, and 51% owned by RRJ Capital Founder Richard, HPL Ong Beng Seng, Newfields Advisors Seow Lun Ho & Langkah Bahagia. Alliance Bank and its subsidiary Alliance Islamic Bank Berhad, is a dynamic, integrated financial services group offering banking and financial solutions through its consumer banking, SME banking, corporate and commercial banking, and Islamic banking businesses. In 1982, Malaysian French Bank Berhad was incorporated to assume the banking business of the two local branches of Banque Indosuez. The incorporation was the result of the French government’s nationalisation of Banque Indosuez and also of the subsequent restructuring of the Bank’s businesses in Malaysia to comply with local banking regulations. In 2001, The Alliance Banking Group was established on 19 January with the successful merger of seven financial institutions. The newly-merged entity’s name and logo were unveiled to the public for the first time as the Alliance Banking Group comprising Alliance Bank Malaysia Berhad (Alliance Bank), Alliance Finance Berhad, Alliance Merchant Bank Berhad and Alliance Unit Trust Management Berhad.
