2024 Corruption Perceptions Index – Top 10 most transparent countries are Denmark, Finland, Singapore, New Zealand, Luxembourg, Norway, Switzerland, Sweden, Netherlands & Australia. The top 5 most transparent countries in APAC are Singapore, New Zealand, Australia, Hong Kong & Japan. The 2024 Corruption Perceptions Index ranked 180 countries and territories. Transparency International – Our vision is of a world in which government, politics, business, civil society and the daily lives of people are free of corruption. In order to get there, our mission is to stop corruption and promote transparency, accountability and integrity at all levels and across all sectors of society. Through national chapters in more than 100 countries and an international secretariat in Berlin, we are leading global action against corruption. Secure and diverse funding enables Transparency International to undertake its vital work, maintain its independence and reputation, and operate effectively. Transparency International receives funding from a range of donors, including government agencies, multilateral institutions, foundations, the private sector and individuals. Funding may be unrestricted or tied to specific projects or programmes. It is our policy to accept funding – whether monetary or in kind – from any donor, provided that does not impair our independence to pursue our mission or endanger our integrity and reputation. Founding – In the early 1990s, corruption was a taboo topic. Many companies regularly wrote off bribes as business expenses in their tax filings, and many international agencies were resigned to the fact that corruption would sap funding from many development projects around the world. Having seen corruption’s impact during his work in East Africa, retired World Bank official, Peter Eigen and nine allies, set up a small organisation to tackle the taboo. Transparency International was established with a Secretariat in Berlin, the capital of a recently reunified Germany. Corruption – We define corruption as the abuse of entrusted power for private gain. Corruption erodes trust, weakens democracy, hampers economic development and further exacerbates inequality, poverty, social division and the environmental crisis. Exposing corruption and holding the corrupt to account can only happen if we understand the way corruption works and the systems that enable it.
