In 2023, Skype reported 36 million users, and had 560 million users in 2010 disclosed in IPO. Skype was founded in 2003 by Sweden Niklas Zennström & Denmark Janus Friis, and created with 4 Estonia developers. In 2025 January, Microsoft $26 billion (2016 acquisition) professional network platform Linkedin has received a class action lawsuit in United States for disclosing premium Linkedin customers private messages to 3rd-party to train generate AI models without customers’ permission, disclosing communication information including employment, intellectual property, compensation & personal matters. Linkedin had modified their privacy policies after public backlash, but did not offer to delete data from existing AI models or to retrain AI models.
