HSBC Head of Wealth & Personal Banking Singapore Anurag Mathur has left HSBC after 14 years (31/12/22), succeeded by Citi veteran Ashmita Acharya to lead HSBC Retail Banking, Private Banking, Wealth Management, Insurance & Asset Management (18/1/23). Anurag Mathur, a former management consultant at Boston Consulting Group, joined HSBC just after the 2008 Global Financial Crisis in 2009, and was soon appointed as HSBC Head of Strategic Planning APAC for Personal Financial Services in 2010. In 2014, Anurag Mathur was appointed HSBC Head of International, Retail Banking & Wealth Management APAC and in 2016, was appointed HSBC Head of Wealth & Personal Banking Singapore. November 2022 – HSBC has hired Citi veteran Ashmita Acharya as HSBC Head of Wealth & Personal Banking Singapore to lead HSBC Singapore Retail Banking, Private Banking, Wealth Management, Insurance & Asset Management (18/1/23). Ashmita Acharya joins HSBC from Citi after more than 20 years, where she last held the role of Citi Retail Banking Head of Singapore and prior, Citi Head of Retail Segments APAC. Ashmita Acharya will report to Wong Kee Joo (HSBC Singapore CEO) and Greg Hingston (HSBC CEO of Global Insurance & Partnerships, Interim Head of Wealth & Personal Banking, South Asia).

HSBC Leading Wealth Manager in Asia by 2025, $6 billion Investment in Asia
HSBC has earmarked $6 billion to invest in Asia over 5 years (2021 to 2025), and aims to be the leading wealth manager in Asia by 2025, with Singapore commercial banking to achieve double-digit growth. In 2022, HSBC has completed strategic acquisitions in including AXA Singapore, LTIM asset management in India, full ownership of China Life Insurance, and increased its stake in HSBC Qianhai Securities to 90%.

Earlier in November 2022, HSBC opened a new headquarter at Marina Bay Financial Centre Tower 2 (MBFC) in Singapore, with the new 140,000 square feet HSBC Singapore headquarter on the top 2 floors of the 50-storey MBFC Tower 2. The HSBC Singapore new headquarter opening is officiated by Singapore Deputy Prime Minister Heng Swee Keat, HSBC Group Chief Executive Noel Quinn and HSBC Singapore CEO Wong Kee Joo.
