HSBC has launched the HSBC Gold Token in Hong Kong available to investors via HSBC online banking & HK mobile app. HSBC Gold Token is powered by HSBC digital assets platform HSBC Orion, and is the first retail product in Hong Kong using distributed ledger technology. Tokenized gold assets in 2023 had crossed more than $1 billion market capitalization. HSBC: “HSBC is revolutionising gold products for everyday investors in Hong Kong through the introduction of the HSBC Gold Token, available via HSBC Online Banking and HSBC HK Mobile App. The launch marks the first time HSBC’s private distributed ledger is being used to tokenise a retail investment product. HSBC Gold Token is powered by HSBC Orion, the bank’s leading digital assets platform. HSBC has been at the forefront of digital assets and asset tokenisation, previously using HSBC Orion to launch digital bonds in Hong Kong and Luxembourg, and to tokenise physical gold in London for institutional investors.
