Hong Kong Exchange (HKEX) has hired JP Morgan 18-year veteran Gregory Yu as Head of Markets and Nomura Kevin Rumjahn as Head of Strategic Projects. Gregory Yu was JP Morgan General Manager & Head of Equities at JP Morgan Securities China in Shanghai, and prior was with BNP Paribas, Zurich Capital Markets & Salomon Smith Barney in New York & London. Kevin Rumjahn was Nomura Head of Asia-ex Japan Consumer & Retail Investment Banking, and prior was with Credit Suisse, ING Barings Asia, Citic Securities & Citigroup. HKEX (10/1/25): “Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) is pleased to announce today (Friday) the appointments of Gregory Yu as Managing Director, Head of Markets, and Kevin Rumjahn as Managing Director, Head of Strategic Projects. In his new role, Mr Yu will help drive the continued vibrancy of HKEX’s equities, derivatives, and fixed-income and currencies franchises, and oversee the development of the Markets function, further elevating Hong Kong’s leading position as an international capital market. Mr Yu will join HKEX in March after over 18 years at JP Morgan, and will report to HKEX Chief Executive Officer, Bonnie Y Chan. Gregory Yu – Mr Yu joins HKEX from JP Morgan, where has worked since 2006 in various senior capacities in Hong Kong and Mainland China, and was most recently General Manager and Head of Equities at JP Morgan Securities (China) Company in Shanghai. Prior to his role in Shanghai, Mr Yu has served as Head of Structuring and Head of Equity Derivatives Sales & Marketing for Asia Pacific. He started his career with Salomon Smith Barney, and has subsequently worked in Zurich Capital Markets, and BNP Paribas in New York and Hong Kong. Mr Yu has a Bachelor of Science degree in business management and applied economics from Cornell University in Ithaca, New York, and is currently a Cornell University Council Member.
Kevin Rumjahn – Mr Rumjahn joins HKEX from Nomura, where he was most recently Managing Director, Head of Asia-ex Japan Consumer and Retail Investment Banking. Prior to Nomura, he spent over 15 years at Credit Suisse in Hong Kong as Managing Director, Head of Greater China Corporate Finance, and was also responsible for Hong Kong coverage in the Investment Banking & Capital Markets division. Earlier in his career he also worked at ING Barings Asia, Citic Securities Hong Kong and Citigroup Asia. Mr Rumjahn has a Master of Accounting and Bachelor of Arts in accounting from the University of Waterloo in Canada. He is a qualified Chartered Professional Accountant in Ontario, Canada.

HKEX (29/11/24): “Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) today (Friday) announced a number of senior management changes, which will take effect from 1 January 2025, unless otherwise stated. Wilfred Yiu, Deputy Chief Executive Officer, Co-Chief Operating Officer and Co-Head of Markets, will retire at the end of 2024 following a distinguished career in the financial services industry. Mr Yiu will also retire as Chief Executive of The Stock Exchange of Hong Kong Limited (SEHK) and Hong Kong Futures Exchange Limited (HKFE) … … Following Mr Yiu’s retirement, Vanessa Lau will become the sole HKEX Chief Operating Officer, in addition to her existing role as Group Chief Financial Officer. Ms Lau will also become Chief Executive of SEHK and HKFE. These appointments have been approved by the Securities and Futures Commission. With Ms Lau’s expanded remit, HKEX is pleased to announce that Xu Liang will join the Group as Managing Director, Head of Operations. Mr Xu joins HKEX on 10 February 2025 and will report to Ms Lau in her COO capacity. In this newly-created role, Mr Xu will direct the Group’s Hong Kong market operations, overseeing the trading, post-trade, and market surveillance and monitoring functions, ensuring the continued robustness, efficiency, and reliability of HKEX’s markets. HKEX is also pleased to announce that Glenda So, currently Co-Head of Markets, will become Head of Platform and Market Structure Development, where she will lead a new division focused on supporting the Group’s delivery of new and innovative platforms and initiatives that will further enhance the diversity and efficiency of its markets. Reporting to Group Chief Information Officer, Richard Leung, Ms So and her team will oversee new and existing projects that explore adjacencies, and that address the Group’s market structure development needs of tomorrow. In the interim, Ms So will continue to help oversee the Markets division until the appointment of a new Head of Markets, to be announced in due course.”

Biography of Mr Xu Liang – Mr Xu joins HKEX after nearly 20 years at Goldman Sachs Group in the US, Mainland China and Hong Kong, where he was most recently Managing Director, Co-Head of Asia-Pacific Operations. He previously held other senior operational roles at the investment bank, including Head of Asia Local Markets Operations, Head of China Operations, and Head of Asia IBD Operations. Before that Mr Xu worked at Procter & Gamble in the US. Mr Xu has a Bachelor of Science degree in mechanical engineering from Tulane University in the US, and a Master of Business Administration from the Stern School of Business at New York University.
