UK video AI (Artificial Intelligence) startup Synthesia has raised $180 million at $2.1 billion valuation in Series D funding round. Synthesia was founded in 2017 by Victor Riparbelli, Steffen Tjerrild, Matthias Niessner & Lourdes Agapito. Investors include NEA, Atlassian Ventures, World Innovation Lab (WiL), PSP Growth, GV, FirstMark, Accel, Kleiner Perkins & MMC. Announcement (15/1/25): “Today, I’m excited to share that Synthesia has raised a $180m Series D funding round with incredible new partners — NEA, Atlassian Ventures, World Innovation Lab (WiL), and PSP Growth — and existing investors such as GV, FirstMark, Accel, Kleiner Perkins, MMC and more joining us to fuel this mission. In this round, we also welcome back many of our existing investors alongside participation from new investors such as Atlassian Ventures and PSP Growth, the VC fund started by Penny Pritzker, the former US Secretary of Commerce who now sits on the board of Microsoft and is the chair of the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace. With this new capital, we’re doubling down on building the best platform for creating, collaborating, and publishing AI videos. Four years ago, we brought the world’s first AI avatars to life. Today, the Synthesia platform has evolved way beyond that – dubbing, screen recording, translation, collaboration, assisted creation and so much more enable our customers to communicate with unmatched engagement and efficiency. This year, we will enable entirely new AI-powered video experiences, pairing our next-generation avatar technology with large-language models and our new video player. They will be interactive, real-time and personalized to deliver engagement beyond video as we know it today. Since we founded the company in 2017 we’ve believed that AI would rapidly shift communication from text to high-fidelity formats like video and audio. That vision is now a reality, and we’re thrilled to keep building, innovating, and creating videos together!”
