Sweden state-owned pension AP Funds ($18 billion AUM) has fully write-down $534 million investment in Sweden lithium battery manufacturer Northvolt which filed for United States Chapter 11 Bankruptcy in 2024 November with $5.8 billion debt. By the end of 2023, Northolt had raised $15 billion in debt, equity & grants. Northvolt represents around 0.3% of AP Funds $18 billion AUM. Northvolt was founded in 2015 by 2 ex-Tesla executives Peter Carlsson & Paolo Cerruti.
