Australia has announced new foreign investor property measures by 1) Issuing a 2-year ban on foreign investors buying existing residential properties (established dwellings) from 1st April 2025 to 31st March 2027. Established dwellings are residential properties that have been owned or occupied for more than 6 months. 1,800 properties yearly in Australia are expected to be unlocked for local Australia buyers. Foreign investors include international students & foreign-owned companies. Other Measures – 2) Foreign owners of vacant properties for more than 6 months in 1 year are subject to annual vacancy fee, 3) Foreign investors of land must develop land within stated period to reduce undeveloped land & properties, 4) Foreign investors cannot own more than 50% of property. (In Australia) Established Dwellings – An established dwelling is a dwelling on residential land that is not a new dwelling.
