The Hong Kong Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) and the Hong Kong Exchange (HKEX) have held Hong Kong’s first International Carbon Markets Summit, with 200+ attendees from Hong Hong & overseas regulators, carbon trading venues, corporates & investors. Hong Kong SFC (15/4/25): “The Securities and Futures Commission (SFC) and the Hong Kong Exchanges and Clearing Limited (HKEX) co-organised the International Carbon Markets Summit today, the first of its kind in Hong Kong. More than 200 participants from local and overseas regulators, carbon trading venues, corporates and investors gathered at the summit to discuss the challenges in scaling of global voluntary carbon markets, the expansion of cross-border transactions and the role of technology in facilitating linkages. The discussions by a wide spectrum of speakers have underscored the importance of collective effort in harmonising international standards and best practices in credit issuance and secondary trading as they promote integrity and scaling of carbon markets. The Secretary for Financial Services and the Treasury, Mr Christopher Hui, and the Secretary for Environment and Ecology, Mr Tse Chin-wan also discussed Hong Kong’s strategic role in global carbon markets and the government’s latest initiatives at a fireside chat.”
